  • A broken bone needs to be seen first. Go to a hospital or come to us so the bone can be checked on an X-ray and set in place. These remedies were always meant to be taken after that.
  • Ask before you take anything. Doses depend on the person and the injury. Ask our kabiraj or your doctor first, especially for children, during pregnancy, or if you have diabetes or take regular medicines.
  • The weights are traditional Odia measures (suki, adhuli, ana); our kabiraj can tell you what they mean for you.

Remedies taken by mouth

In our tradition, once a broken bone has been set and bandaged, these remedies are taken to help it join:

  1. Arjuna bark. Powdered bark of the arjuna tree, from a suki to an adhuli in weight, taken with ghee and honey.
  2. Babul bark. Powdered bark of the babul (acacia) tree, from a suki to an adhuli in weight, taken with honey for three days.
  3. Hada sinkula with lac, wheat and arjuna. Hada sinkula (the "bone-joiner" vine, asthisamhara), lac, wheat and arjuna bark, two ana of each, ground and taken with milk and ghee. Another version grinds garlic, honey, lac, ghee and sugar together. Tradition warns never to take honey and ghee in equal amounts.
  4. Babul seeds. Powdered babul seeds, one suki in weight, taken with honey for three days.

Herbs in our oils and medicines

Our massage oil is made from the juices of roots, leaves and medicinal fruits, and is used for the lingering pain of a fracture, old knee pain and old injuries. Other herbs used in our treatments include sunaregeda, nirmuli, sambar khai, basanga, begunia leaves and roots, kaladurdura and paguari.

After diagnosing the problem, whether it's a fracture, knee pain, a stiff neck, back pain, paralysis, an old injury or general weakness, our kabiraj gives herbal medicines made by hand at the centre.
