Common signs

  • Pain that gets worse when you move or press the area
  • Swelling or bruising over a bone
  • A limb that looks bent or out of shape
  • Being unable to use it or put weight on it

How we help

We start by looking at your X-ray. For a fresh fracture, the area is wrapped in a paste of medicinal herbs and a cotton bandage (patti), with small bamboo splints for support where needed, usually for two to four weeks. The bandage is changed about every four days with fresh herbal paste.

Once the bone has started to settle, gentle Kalupada seka (herbal heat therapy) helps ease the stiffness and swelling that are left. How long it all takes depends on the bone and the break: our kabiraj will tell you what to expect after seeing your X-ray.

Go to a hospital first if

  • The bone is pushing through the skin, or there is heavy bleeding
  • The injury is to the head, neck, spine, hip or thigh bone
  • The hand or foot below the injury is cold, pale or numb

These need hospital care straight away. We’re happy to help with your recovery afterwards.
