Kalupada seka (herbal heat therapy)
Our traditional treatment: herbal oil on the painful area, a herbal bandage, and gentle heat from a warmed iron rod, only as warm as you can comfortably bear.
What happens
- Herbal oil is gently rubbed into the skin over the painful area.
- A few layers of cotton cloth, spread with herbal oil and a herbal paste, are laid over it.
- A warmed iron rod is pressed slowly over the cloth. You only feel as much warmth as you can comfortably bear, and most people find it very relaxing.
Our experienced therapists give seka with great care. It does not burn the skin or leave marks.
How many sessions
Most people come daily for a short course. A minor problem often feels better within 10 to 15 days; a longer-standing one may take more. We’ll tell you what we expect after your first visit.
Where the name comes from
Seka means heat therapy. This way of treating pain began at Kalupada Ghat in Khordha district, Odisha, so it is known across the state as Kalupada seka.
